Update to the Opening of the Stargate 5

August 6 2001.

Earlier articles concerning the "Opening of the stargate", an event (or series of events) that took place around the summer solstice 2000,explain the the astronomy involved. On the day of the solstice itself (21 June 2000) I took a party of interested people, mostly either British or American, to the Giza pyramids both to witness and to partake in what was by any standards something quite extraordinary. We saw the sun sitting over the top of the Khafre Pyramid at the precise time that it crossed the east-west axis. Though the sun has been doing this at the solstice for centuries, this seems to have been the first time that modern people have consciously witnessed it. What is more, because of the precession of the equinoxes, when the the sun is at its solstice position, it now stands over the hand of Orion at the northern stargate.

A documentary programme of the tour was made by Nicky Carter of Jig-Saw Productions for SABC (the South African Boadcasting Corporation). It was broadcast in South Africa on 7 January 2001 to wide acclaim. Following the first showing of the documentary the switchboard at SABC was jammed with callers demanding that it should be shown again. This had not been planned but a slot was found on March 11.

To date this program has not been shown on either British or American TV but it is hoped that this will happen in due course.
